In class today we worked on our project idea. We changed our minds on what we are doing. We are going to build the pantheon. Tucker and Luke are going to build the structure and callie and i will help by decorating and creating a big poster board with information about the structure.

• At one point the Circus could seat 250,000 people, one quarter of Rome's population

Colosseum

Today in class we worked on our group project. My group is Tucker Luke Callie and I. We are doing a project on the Colosseum. The boys are going to create a structure that represents the exact structure. Callie and I are going to do research on the Colosseum and create a poster board. Here is some information that I have found

Structure

·      620 by 513 feet the coloseeum was the largest amphitheater in the Roman World

·      The Colosseum was a free standing structure made of stone and concrete

·      The exterior had three stories of arched entrances- a total of around 80 supported by semicircular columns

Inside

• ·      The colosseum had seating for more than 50,000 spectators, who may have been arranged according to social ranking
• ·      Awnings were unfurled from the top story in order to protect the audience from the hot Roman sun as they watched gladiatorial combats, hunts, wild animal fights

Colosseum over the centuries

• ·      The arena had suffered damage due to natural phenomena such as lighting and earthquakes
• ·      In the centuries to come, the colosseum was abandoned, and used as a quarry for numerous building projects
• ·      Beginning in the 18^th centuries century. However, various popes sought to conserve the arena as a sacred Christian site
• ·      Restoration efforts began in the 1990s and have proceeded over the years, as the Colosseum continues to be a leading attraction for tourists from all over the world

Located just east of the Roman Forum, the massive stone amphitheater known as the Colosseum was commissioned around A.D 70-72.

In  A.D 80 Verpasian’s son Titus opened the Colosseum- officially known as the Flavian Amphitheater with 100 days of games

Games include gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights

After four centuries of active use, the magnificent arena fell into neglect, and up until the 18^th century it was used as a source of building materials

Two thirds of the original Colosseum has been destroyed over time

The amphitheater remains a popular tourist destination

Today we went over mr shicks song. All the lyrics had to do for Rome. I am going to try and listen to the song so it maybe will help on the test.

Todays class was both interesting and funny. At the beginning of the class Mr shick was teaching and than the phone rang. He asked me to pick it up and the lady said " Tell Mr schick he has a visitor in the office for him". So i hung up and told him. So he left and came back in the door. When he walked back in, everyone burst out laughing. He was in a sweatshirt and sunglasses and started rapping. The rap song was about Rome. This song will help us study for the test if we memorize the lyrics. Than after he finished that we continued to take notes on Rome.

Today in class we took notes on a power point. We explained many things. Some things are confusing but hopefully if we continue to review i will understand.

In class mr schick explained to us a new project. We get to choose groups and pick a project of our own . My group is Tucker, Callie and Luke. We have come up with an idea yet. The project has to be on Rome.
